About

Corrina Field was born in Wordsley, West Midlands, UK and is a graduate, artist in residence and visiting lecturer of Wolverhampton University. She completed her Master’s degree in Glass in 2017 and BA honours degree in 3D Glass Design in 2000.

Hot glass sculpture became part of her practice following a workshop for women in Nuutajarvii, Finland, hosted by Karen Willenbrink-Johnsen and Shelley Muzylowski-Allen.
The following year she was awarded a full scholarship to Pilchuck Glass school where she developed her glass blowing skills, focusing on the creation of vessels under the tutelage of Peter Ivy and David Levi.

Corrina worked for several years as an assistant and maker in a hot glass studio. During this time, she worked with a variety of glass artists. She also created her own work and private commissions, including a collaborative design project with Wedgwood. Her glassware has been featured in numerous national publications, selected galleries, and exhibitions, including the 2015 UK Glass Biennale.

My work explores the ethereal themes of mysticism and ritual. Through the layering of glass making techniques and combination of glass with raw elements, tactile surfaces emerge, which appear to mimic the passage of time. The glass becomes imbued with an ancient aesthetic, a symbol of fragile and impermanent beauty, an echo of the natural world and the human experience.

Vessels and sculpted forms of clear furnace glass are blended with oxides and transformed within a hand-built mould inside a kiln. I create the conditions, surrender to the process, and allow the innate materiality of glass to find its unique expression.
